Offshore Platform shipment over Atlantic Ocean from Lagos to Galveston by Semi-submersible vessel.

WELL imported the Constitution rig for Oando. Using a safe discharge point in the waters of Equatorial Guinea and then floating the rig directly to the drill site in deep offshore, WELL was able to effect clearance without involving the usual facilities at Onne. This saved an estimated $2m in fees which would have been incurred had WELL not delivered this innovative solution. WELL was contracted to export the OANDO Respect swamp rig from Lagos to USA for refurbishment. WELL found a semi sub vessel, the MV Fjord, from Fair Star which had different design and less free board and thus required only 16-17m draft for float on operations. WELL decided to do bathometric and hydrographic surveys of the Lagos port and channels to see if we could identify an area which had over 16m draft and could be considered as a float on operational site. The survey identified an area within the Lagos Commodore Pool which had 17-19m draft and after lengthy discussions with Fair Star, OANDO, Marine Warranty Surveyors, NPA, NMA and Customs officials in Nigeria, WELL obtained required approvals to proceed with the float on operations within the Lagos Commodore pool. The OANDO rig had to be loaded onto a semisubmersible vessel for export, but normal semisubmersible vessels required min 20m draft for float on operations. This meant that the closest float on site would have been offshore Bonny, Nigeria or in Equatorial Guinea waters.
